Privacy

What we do and don't collect.

Short, because there is not much to say.

Your images

When you upload, drag or paste an image, or load the bundled example, it is read and analysed inside your browser. It is not sent to us, so we cannot store it, look at it, or lose it. Closing the tab is all the deletion there is to do.

There is one exception, and it is the only one. If you use the optional image URL field, our server has to fetch that image on your behalf, because your browser is not permitted to. In that case:

  • We see the URL you pasted, in order to request it.
  • The image passes through our server on its way to your browser.
  • It is held in memory only, never written to disk, and never kept.
  • The URL is checked before we fetch it, and images over 20MB are refused.

Palettes and share links

A share link contains the colours themselves — the hex codes are in the URL. There is no database record behind it. That means a shared link cannot reveal the image it came from, there is nothing for us to delete when you are done with it, and it will keep working for as long as the site does.

Analytics

We count what happens, not who did it. An event records that (for example) a palette was generated with six colours on a mobile device. It does not record any image data, any colour value, any URL you pasted, any identifier, or anything that could be tied back to you.

Page views are also counted by Vercel Web Analytics, run by the company that hosts this site. It records the page, the referring site, and coarse details like country and device type. It sets no cookie, assigns no identifier that follows you between sites, and cannot be used to build a profile of you. Vercel describes it at vercel.com/docs/analytics/privacy-policy. Nothing about your image reaches it — your image never leaves your browser in the first place.

The one piece of browser storage the tool uses is a flag in sessionStorage so a single visit is not counted repeatedly. It disappears when you close the tab.

Advertising

Palettae is supported by display advertising, served by Google AdSense. Ads are kept below the tool and below results, and never inside them.

Google is a third-party vendor here, and it uses cookies to serve ads. Its use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. How Google uses data from sites that use its services is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

These are the only cookies Palettae is involved in: we set none of our own, and the analytics described above use none. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, Google’s consent message asks for your choices before personalised ads are served, and records them.

Accounts

There are none. We do not ask for an email address and there is nothing to sign in to.
